Class Schedules

The classes taught at Plumfield have been chosen with great care. We aim to adhere to short lesson times and varied subjects to aid in the habit of attention and allow a deeper connection with material over a longer period of time. Unlike other models that may group all the inspirational subjects on one day, thus leaving the rest of the week out of balance; we take care to balance inspirational subjects with disciplinary subjects so that you are able to enjoy those variations on home days as well. As home educators it can be difficult to meet the needs of various ages within a reasonable amount of time. We have chosen our courses to aid in your ability to meet each child at their level without the complications that can come with combining students across many grade levels. We have also taken into account those subjects that lend themselves to group learning such as folk dancing, and PE, or subjects that benefit from expert teachers such as sol-fa or art instruction. Tutors may assign occasional work to be done at home and upper grade levels will begin to work on the habits of scheduling and accountability by have readings and assignments to complete before the next hybrid day, but most subjects chosen are self-contained and do not have crossover or homework that will need to be done before the next class. The following are the class schedules for the 2022-23 academic year.

Reading/Grammar & Math

We have found that because we are a two-day hybrid model it is complicated to teach math and reading in a way that honors each student's individual progress in those subjects without too much burden being placed on parent and student to "keep up" with hybrid days at home. Our solution is to provide parents time with students at each grade level to work in those subjects. This way you are able to work at their individual pace without the burn out of trying to fit reading and math in before or after a long day. All parents are required to stay until they have completed math or reading/grammar with the student(s).

GRADES 1-3

  • Tuesdays-students will have parent-led lessons in reading and tutor-led math games/review.

  • Fridays-students will have parent-led math and tutor-led fluency reading practice.

  • During fluency reading, any non-readers will enjoy being read to by the older students and be motivated to prepare their own story to share during that time as the year progresses.

  • A suggested Reading/Math schedule can be found below.

GRADES 4-6

  • Tuesdays-students will have parent-led lessons in grammar and tutor-led math games/review.

  • Fridays-students will have parent-led math.

  • All other grammar and dictation lessons will occur at home.

  • A suggested Grammar/Math schedule can be found below.

GRADES 7-8

  • Math-Upper-level students have parent-led instruction both days to ensure they are able to complete math at a pace that will prepare them for high school.

  • Grammar-Upper-level students have parent-led grammar on Tuesdays only.

  • All other grammar and dictation lessons will occur at home.

  • A suggested Grammar/Math schedule can be found below.
