Our Story
Years ago, as I embarked on the journey of homeschooling, I came across an educational philosopher named Charlotte Mason, and her words gave life to my weary soul. As a former public school teacher, I saw there was a better way for me to educate my children, a way of educating that would instill a love of learning. As Mason said,
“Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.”
As I was contemplating these ideas and how to live them in our little homeschool, I also happened to read a book called “Little Men” by Louisa May Alcott that was recommended to me by a friend. As a teacher reading that book, you can’t help but be inspired by Jo and her little school at Plumfield. It was then that the idea for Plumfield House of Education was born—the idea of a place where families could work in partnership with tutors to give their children the best education for their needs.

As someone who was once a weary public school teacher with a dream for her own children, I am now pursuing a passionate reality to serve the children in the Augusta area. I have seen the benefits of a life-giving education, and even more, the benefits of living that education in community. There is something magical that happens when children come together to learn in this way. Our hybrid tutorial model where families can learn together part of the week, and learn in community for the other part, keeps the best of both worlds. We are excited to keep growing and see where the Lord leads us. We invite you to look around and see if our dreams could become your reality too.
