Our Faith

The primary focus of Plumfield House of Education is to provide families with a rich community learning environment along with home educational support in pursuing a liberal arts education based in Charlotte Mason's educational philosophies.

At Plumfield the Christian faith is at the core of our perspective and our understanding of the implementation of Mason’s educational philosophies. We allow no separation to grow up between the intellectual and ‘spiritual’ life of children (Mason’s 20 principles of education). While we do not teach any bible or religious lessons, we do not shy away from allowing the children to process their education through the lens of religion. We allow them to share all the connections they make without fear of judgment or preaching, while encouraging thoughtful and respectful conversations. Members of our staff come from a variety of different backgrounds, denominations, and streams of religion, and we welcome families from all backgrounds, Christian affiliated or not. We strive to create an atmosphere of inclusivity and variety for our students to learn respect and understanding for all of God’s children. We ask that during the enrollment process parents familiarize themselves with our faith perspective and the role that plays in student life. During the day at Plumfield, students and parents attend a morning meeting that includes singing a variety of hymns and patriotic songs, reading affirmations and poetry, presenting announcements, and opening the day in prayer. All staff and students will demonstrate respect toward individual family beliefs and practices.
